Unter ihr wurde das Kloster 1835 durch aargauische Truppen besetzt und darauf wiederum der staatlichen Verwaltung unterstellt. 1840 ließ die Äbtissin die Leutkirche stark vergrößern. Dem Verbot, Novizinnen aufzunehmen, folgte 1841 schließlich die Aufhebung des Klosters. Maria Magdalena Ritter, die in der Klostertradition als fromme, kluge, überaus verständige Frau» beschrieben wird, veranlasste die Übersiedlung des Konventes ins [[Benediktinerinnenkloster St. Andreas, Sarnen]]. Da sie selbst schwer krank war, blieb sie in Hermetschwil, wo sie im Hause des Arztes Dr. Abbt zusammen mit zwei Chorfrauen Aufnahme fand. Sie verstarb am 28.
